Historical Information: 536 4-axle 2250 hp “Dash 7” diesel locomotives were built by GE over a period of 7 years starting in 1977. 411 were sold in the U.S. and 125 went to Mexico. Many are still in service.
This HO scale Atlas Master Series Gold locomotive is LokSound equipped. The locomotive also comes with a five-pole skewed armature motor with dual flywheels for optimum performance at all speeds. The many features include directional lighting, see through step detail on the sill, etched metal radiator grilles, and painted crew members. It is also factory-equipped with AccuMate knuckle couplers and a coupler pocket designed to accept AccuMate Proto-couplers. Separately applied scale detail parts include windshield wipers, metal grab irons, coupler cut levers, multiple-unit hoses, snowplow, train line hoses, fine scale handrails, and more!
Road name specific details include pilots with and without anti-climber, cab headlights or low-nose headlights, cab with 4 or 2 side windows, bell mounted under the sill or on the long hood, and FB-2, AAR type B, or Blomberg truck side-frames.
LokSound features include a dual-mode decoder that allows your locomotive to be used on DC as well as on DCC layouts. Sound functionality includes over 20 sound effects (including engine start-up and shutdown, prime mover sounds through all eight notches, bell, air horn, air compressor, dynamic brakes and more), 16 user-selectable horns, 2 user-selectable bells, and 2 user-selectable synchronized brake squeals. Also featured are manual and automatic notching modes with the ability to change modes on the fly for true realism.
DCC operation features also support all DCC-programming modes, flexible mapping of function keys F0 to F28, a total of six DCC function outputs, and follows all NMRA DCC standards and recommended practices.
Please note that the Atlas Quantum Engineer will NOT operate an Atlas Gold Series locomotive equipped with a LokSound Select decoder on an analog (DC) layout. However, the sound and lighting functions of the LokSound Select decoder in the Atlas Gold Series locomotive can be controlled by an easy-to-use basic DCC system.
Also note that on a DC-powered layout, a DCC and sound equipped locomotive CANNOT be consisted with another locomotive that does not also have both DCC and sound. (This statement does NOT apply to DCC-equipped locomotives operating on a DCC layout.)
