Product Description

Historical Information: 1145 GP-40 diesel locomotives were produced by EMD between 1966 and 1972. The 3000 hp GP-40 engine was used mainly for road freight and many are still in service today.

This Atlas HO scale Master Series Silver locomotive is DCC-READY with a NMRA 8-pin plug for easy DCC decoder installation. Its many features include a realistic die-cast under-frame, a five-pole skewed armature motor with dual flywheels for optimum performance at all speeds, directional lighting, golden-white LEDs, and factory-equipped AccuMate® knuckle couplers.

Additional features include a detailed cab interior with crew, separately installed scale windshield wipers, metal grab irons and fine scale handrails, movable drop steps, walkway safety tread, coupler cut bars, multiple unit hoses and train-line hoses, and a snowplow.

Additional feature parts that are included but not installed on this model GP-40 are an electrical cabinet air filter box (ECAFB), and two engine compartment roof vents which were added by many railroads sometime after delivery.
